Thermal-striping analysis methodology for sodium-cooled reactor design

Computational fluid dynamics simulations have been performed to study the applicability of engineering CFD methods for thermals striping analysis. Thermal is fluctuating temperature profile in a solid caused by temperature, and resulting thermal stresses cause high cycle fatigue eventual material failure. This presents methodology analysis, including transient conjugate heat transfer RANS simulation benchmarked against sodium triple jet experiment. Multiphysics calculations are implemented analyze domain coupled between domains. Validation data from liquid experiment include time-averaged measurements power spectra signal. The numerical results agree well with these experimental measures, demonstrating key features such as dominant frequency fluctuations. low-cost wall treatment method demonstrated, enabling computational savings. Finally, performance two finite element stress analysis software packages compared, validity lower-cost confirmed.
